History
Rooted in Industry, Grown by Community
Botany Village is one of Clifton’s oldest neighborhoods, shaped by a textile industry that drew immigrant workers and their families to the area. The neighborhood takes its name from the Botany Worsted Mills, a major industrial complex that produced fine wool fabrics and employed thousands of workers in the early twentieth century.
The community grew alongside the mills, with generations of residents helping shape its distinctive character. As manufacturing declined, the neighborhood continued to evolve. Today, Botany Village brings together local businesses, residents, and volunteers dedicated to preserving its history, supporting its growth, and keeping its community spirit alive.
Our Village Through Time
Early 1900s
Centered around silk and wool mills that employed thousands, Botany Village helped establish Clifton as a textile manufacturing center. The neighborhood takes its name from the Botany Worsted Mills.
Mid-Century
As manufacturing shifts, the neighborhood transitions. Families, small businesses, and a close-knit community take root along Parker Avenue and beyond.
2000
Clifton’s Historic Botany Village was formed to bring local businesses, residents, community leaders, and volunteers together to strengthen the community.
Today
Through community events, business support, beautification, and local partnerships, we preserve Botany Village’s character while supporting its continued growth.
